Brandywine Rotary Club
District 7630
Welcome to the Rotary Club of Brandywine’s website. The club was chartered on March 8, 1955. Otis Zwissler was our club’s first president. At the time he was Vice-President of the then Phoenix Steel Corp. The 45 member club is one of 42 clubs that comprise Rotary District 7630, which covers Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Brandywine Rotarian Bob Wood was the first District Governor in 1971-72. Rotary International has over 1.2 million members in some 30,000 Rotary clubs in more than 160 countries. Throughout our 50 years of “Service Above Self,” our club has raised more than $520,000 for use in many different community service projects. Each year the club sponsors scholarships for outstanding students from nearby high schools in the Brandywine School District and a non-traditional scholarship for an individual who has been out of high school for awhile and wishes to continue their education but needs financial assistance to do so. The club has also provided support to the local Ronald McDonald House and McDonald’s LPGA tournament, American Cancer Society Relay For Life, Boy Scouts “Adopt-A-Cabin,” YMCA camperships, Easter Seals Camp Fairlee camperships, Adopt-A-Highway clean-up, holiday bell ringing with the Salvation Army, food and clothing contributions to the Claymont Community Center, polio eradication, and mentors to Carrcroft Elementary School. We also participate in the International Group Study Exchange and continue to sponsor the Interact Club of Mt. Pleasant High School, which was started in the year 2002. We raise funds through the annual progressive dinner, silent auctions and the Reunion gathering on specific anniversaries. If you wish to be a part of the largest service organization in the world and want to enjoy the weekly fellowship of other Rotarians, inspiring programs and make our community and world better places to live, contact any member. |
